Tuesday Report

Well thank goodness the big rain stayed away. We had a few misty moments and it was cooler than yesterday but it was decent.

We all met Congressman Dale Kildee in his office. He was very knowledgeable of MI and seemed genuinely interested in having us there. I'm glad we had the opportunity to meet him.

Afterwards we all went our separate ways. Here are some places people went today.

A fabulous Monday

Hello everyone! What a great day! We left this morning at 9:00 and took the Metro to the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. What a beautiful church. I think everyone was amazed at the crypt level, upper church, and many chapels. It was absolutely sublime. We went to mass and the priest even welcomed our group publicly. Some people from Gaylord then let us know they were there from MI too.

We took the metro over to Union Station and walked to the Capitol building for a tour. We then took a snack/treat break before walking to the Air and Space Museum. A few of us braved the flight simulators while others saw the Wright Brothers plane and other fun in aviation.

Then we walked over to the Mall and found that the film "Night at the Museum 2" was being taped. We saw Mr. Ben Stiller himself! He waved at our rowdy "star struck" group and even asked where we were from. Mackenzie then got bold yelling "I have a brother named after you" he asked her "for real and how old" she replied 9 months and then it was back to taping. Ms. Gabbie has already approved our field trip next year to see the movie. Yeah! :) That was really exciting!

We walked over to Union Station where we had dinner. We then took our Twilight Tour. It was nice. We saw the Jefferson, Lincoln, FDR, WWII, Korean War, & Vietnam War Memorials.

I think everyone is tired but happy. The weather was beautiful! Sunny & pleasant! Tomorrow is looking like lots of rain all day. :( Oh well, I am thankful for today.

The kids are behaving wonderfully and the parents are doing well too.

I guess that there is a St. Elizabeth mental hospital out here and a few people have found it comical to say something to us about letting us out to tour the city today. hahaha...right? We all looked great in our shirts.

So that is the general DC report for Monday. I'll let the students add in the comment section some of the finer details and their fondest memories of the day.

Hopefully tomorrow will be just as great, rain or shine! Nighty night!

Hello everyone! We are having a great time and except for having to jump start the car this morning the traveling went very well.

The internet connection is not great here so unless somehow it miraculously gets better I won't be uploading pictures.

Tomorrow we will be touring the Basilica of the Shrine of the National Conception. We will also be touring the Capitol Building and then Union Station. We will end our day with a night tour of DC. Lets hope for good weather!

We are very busy working on our special presentation for the 8th grade graduation so regular work has decreased. However, the students still had time to work in class on the religion and reading. They need to really focus on their Accel Math & Reading goals as the year winds down.

I sent home a packet of info on the DC trip. This should be the last thing sent home from me before the trip. Also, to those of you who had fundraiser money for meals a check was sent home for you today.

Anyone who thinks they may be driving at all during the trip needs to get me a copy of their drivers license and their auto insurance policy.

DC Shirt Designs

Here are the two t-shirt design options for our trip. The cost will be $11.00 if parents want one. $1.50 more for XXL, or $3.00 more for XXXL. I will be purchasing the students shirts with my Home & School start up money.

The class started reading Johnny Tremain today. There will a quiz on each individual chapter and also they have to do 2 journal entries from Johnny's perspective on each chapter. This will be a significant portion of their reading grade.

Extra credit for the 3rd marking period has been requested and I will make up packets to give out tomorrow.

Pray for no rain on Thursday. If you haven't brought in your permission slip and money for skiing please do so ASAP.

The basket items for the Bishop's Charity Ball have started trickling in. As with the $100 dinner baskets I will hand out either a homework, jean day, or MP3 pass for each value of $10 that is put in the basket. If you can help out great! Remember we are doing an entertainment basket.

The alumni ski trip to Caberfae Peaks has been scheduled for Thursday March 13th! It will be a great time; please join us if you can. Permission slips will be sent home tomorrow. Tomorrow is a jean day. Please bring a blue or red dress code shirt to serve in. If the jeans are neat looking, (i.e. no holes, tears, faded, etc.) you may serve at the spaghetti supper in them to preserve your dress slacks since spaghetti is so messy.
