7th graders are doing the IOWA skills test, the 8th graders will be required to step up their A/M scanning during this time.

Tomorrow

1st - I am aware that we are in for some weather overnight. Obviously if Ms. Gabbie feels that it is too dangerous to go to school and cancels it the ski trip will also be cancelled and rescheduled. So be sure to watch TV 25 tomorrow morning to make sure we still have school. If we do you are free to go. Honestly, in my opinion the weather doesn't look too harsh and it should be perfect skiing weather so I hope you can go.

2nd - We have mass on Friday. Now just for the simple fact that we may not have school on Thursday either we need to be ready. If you would like to participate please leave a comment with what you would like to do. You won't have a chance to practice the readings at the mic but I know you would all do a nice job so don't make me beg! Please sign up.

Awesome job boys and girls on the 7th/8th grade basketball team! They won the championship in Gladwin, just barely beating St. Joseph Gold 23-21 (a very hair rasing game), and St. Michael's 44-34. Seasonal Fun!

What a wonderful party we had yesterday. The food was excellent, the scavenger hunt was awesome, and the white elephant gift exchange was great! And the 5/6 revenge was pretty comical too albeit smelly. They better watch out!

Religion – 10 points
Pay special attention to one of the homily’s that your Priest gives at mass. Write a 150-200 word summary about what he talked about. You may also mention the songs and readings if they tie into the homily. Be sure to write the date you were at mass on your paper.

Global Studies Projects - You may pick up to two projects worth 10 points each.

1. Cultural Diversity Collage

Use words and pictures cut out of old magazines and newspapers to create a collage that illustrates the mix of cultures that exists in the United States. Then write a 150-200 word essay that expresses how this mix of cultures has enriched your own life.

2. Five themes of geography poster

Create a poster showing the five themes of geography; location, region, place, movements, and human-environment interaction.
3. 2008 Review

Either in an essay or a hanging mobile list and detail 15-20 major events of the year. These events can be personal (did they happen to you) or more global (did they affect the country/world, etc.)

Science Projects - You may pick up to two projects worth 10 points each.
1. Make a Model Atom

Using any kind of materials you like make an accurate model of an atom of any element of your choosing.

2. Find an article in a newspaper or magazine that has anything to do with science. Bring me a copy of the article and write a brief 150-200 word synopsis of the article.

3. Research why the moon has phases and write a brief 150-200 word essay explaining why the Earth’s moon has phases and describing the phases. Draw pictures of the different phases of the moon.

Math Projects – You may pick up to two projects worth 10 points each.

1. Metric Units
There are numerous metric units that we will never cover in grade school. Find out what the seven base units for the metric system are and what they measure. i.e. The metric base unit for length is the meter.
Then identify all the prefixes that are used (they range from 1018 to 10-18). Then tell me where five of these units would be used.

2. Large Edifices
An edifice is a building or temple or monument or some other impressive structure. Over the ages, people have built many large edifices, including the pyramids of the Mayas, the Babylonians, or the Egyptians; the temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia or Machu Picchu in Peru; the Pentagon in Washington DC; and the Kremlin in Russia. Pick one of these or some other famous large edifice. Look up info regarding the edifice you picked. Draw and accurate picture of the edifice, labeling important points. Describe its area and volume, or areas and volumes related to it. Write a paragraph describing how and when the structure was built and what its use was or is.

3. Percents in Print
Look through a newspaper or magazine for 25 uses of the word percent of the symbol %. Make sure all the percents are different. Order the percents from smallest to largest, and describe how each one was used. For example you might say 3.75% was used for a savings account rate. In a paragraph summarize what you have found.

Reading – 5 points each you may do up to 4.

1. Pick a date in the “Little Blue Books” from church and write in 100 words or less for each date about something that you learned or were inspired from when reading that day’s page.

Vocab – 10 points. Make a crossword puzzle using 20 of your vocab words. Make sure you use at least one word from each lesson and write in the clue which lesson it comes from.
